Air India passengers flying to or from Visakhapatnam now need to use Bhogapuram Airport, not the old city airport. From August 17, 2026, all Air India Visakhapatnam services shifted to the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, while the familiar VTZ airport code remains unchanged. Air India confirmed the move, including 14 weekly flights between Bhogapuram and Delhi.

That unchanged VTZ code is useful for booking—but it can also cause confusion on travel day. A ticket displaying “Visakhapatnam (VTZ)” no longer means you should automatically head to the former Visakhapatnam civil terminal.

Where Do Air India Visakhapatnam Flights Depart From Now?

Air India’s VTZ flights now operate from Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram. The change took effect on August 17 after scheduled commercial operations were transferred away from the previous Visakhapatnam civil enclave.

Here is the change worth saving:

Practical tip: When booking a cab, do not simply say “Vizag Airport.” Enter Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, Bhogapuram and check the map pin before confirming the ride.

That small check matters far more than the airport code on your boarding pass.

Are There Still Air India Bhogapuram to Delhi Flights?

Yes. Air India is continuing 14 weekly Bhogapuram–Delhi services after the airport change. Delhi remains especially useful for passengers connecting onward because Air India describes the route as providing access to domestic and international destinations through its hub.

Passengers should nevertheless check the live Air India flight schedule for their exact date. A weekly frequency tells you how much service exists; it does not guarantee that every departure time stays identical throughout the season.

Will My Air India Ticket Still Show VTZ?

Yes—the VTZ code has moved with Visakhapatnam’s scheduled airport operations. This is one of the easiest details to misunderstand during the transition.

A traveler who booked weeks ago may see “VTZ” on both the original confirmation and current boarding information and assume nothing has changed. The code has not changed, but the airport has. Air India and government broadcaster Akashvani News both confirm that the new Bhogapuram airport is using VTZ.

What Is Different Inside Bhogapuram Airport?

The new terminal has been built for substantially larger and more modern passenger processing. Air India says the terminal covers 77,342 square metres, with 22 conventional check-in counters, 18 self-baggage-drop units, advanced screening, modern baggage systems and seven aerobridges.

Airport operator GMR says the first phase is designed for six million passengers annually. GMR’s airport project page also highlights expanded domestic and international connectivity as a core purpose of the new facility.

How Should Vizag Passengers Prepare for the Bhogapuram Airport Shift?

Allow extra ground-travel time during your first few trips to the new airport. The biggest risk is not misunderstanding the flight—it is automatically following the travel routine you used for the old terminal.

Before leaving home:

  1. Open your Air India booking and confirm the departure date and time.
  2. Search for Bhogapuram or Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in your navigation app.
  3. Check the airport pin with your driver before the vehicle moves.
  4. Do not use an old saved “Visakhapatnam Airport” location without verifying it.
  5. Check flight status again before departure, particularly while airlines settle into the new operating environment.

For travelers accustomed to leaving home based on the old airport journey time, this is the habit to change first. Plan the road journey around the new terminal, not around your old VTZ routine.

Bottom Line: What Has Actually Changed for Air India Flyers?

The code stayed the same; the airport did not. From August 17, Air India’s Visakhapatnam passengers use Bhogapuram Airport, while the carrier continues 14 weekly Delhi services.

Save the new airport in your maps now. That five-second step may prevent the most expensive mistake possible on departure day: arriving at the right time at the wrong airport.
