Air India Travel Alert: Passengers Warned of Longer Airport Security Checks Until August 20

Published on

Air India passengers flying from August 10 through August 20, 2026 should reach the airport earlier than usual because enhanced security measures could make security checks and other airport formalities take longer. The official Air India travel advisory tells travellers to allow additional time, but it does not announce flight cancellations or introduce a new fixed airport-arrival rule.

What Does the Air India Travel Alert Mean for Passengers?

The main risk is losing time between entering the terminal and reaching your boarding gate. Air India says enhanced security measures are being implemented at airports and advises passengers travelling during the August 10–20 period to arrive “well in advance.”

One useful detail: the advisory does not provide a specific list of affected airports. Travellers should therefore avoid assuming the warning concerns only Delhi, Mumbai or another large hub.

How Early Should Air India Passengers Reach the Airport?

Do not use the check-in counter closing time as your planned airport arrival time. Air India’s domestic check-in guidance says domestic counters at Indian airports close 60 minutes before departure, while boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure.

For international flights, Air India says counters generally close 60 minutes before departure, while Delhi’s international counters close 75 minutes before departure.

*These are sensible planning buffers during the alert period, not new Air India requirements.

What Should You Do Before Leaving Home?

Three small actions can prevent a security queue from becoming a missed-flight problem:

  1. Check your Air India flight status before leaving home.
  2. Complete online check-in when available.
  3. Pack your cabin bag so security staff do not need to reopen it unnecessarily.

Air India’s restricted baggage guidance says liquids, aerosols and gels should be in containers of 100 ml or less inside a one-litre transparent resealable bag. Power banks must be carried in hand baggage rather than checked baggage.

The Mistake Air India Passengers Should Avoid Until August 20

Do not arrive late simply because your flight still shows “on time.” A flight can depart on schedule while passengers spend longer getting through security.

Picture a 7:30 am departure: 15 minutes at bag drop, another 30 at security and a long walk to the gate can quickly erase a comfortable buffer. The alert is best treated as a queue warning, not automatically a flight-delay warning.

The simplest strategy through August 20 is clear: arrive earlier, keep documents accessible, simplify your cabin bag and check your flight status before setting off.
